If your landlord has proposed a rent increase you believe is excessive, wants to charge you for utilities and services that used to be included in your rent, or you believe your current rent is unfair because of unsafe or unhealthy housing conditions, you can file a complaint with the New Haven Fair Rent Commission. The Commission is empowered to investigate complaints, limit the amount of rent a tenant can be charged, and order landlords to cease and desist retaliation against tenants for filing complaints.
